{"id":366,"date":"2018-05-21T13:09:42","date_gmt":"2018-05-21T13:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ohiofoundationreport.org\/fiscal-2017\/?p=366"},"modified":"2018-05-21T16:12:22","modified_gmt":"2018-05-21T16:12:22","slug":"making-a-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ohiofoundationreport.org\/fiscal-2017\/blog\/2018\/05\/21\/making-a-match\/","title":{"rendered":"Making a Match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When $100 can become $150, OHIO alumni and friends bring student support to the table.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2013, The OHIO Match\u2122 Undergraduate Scholarship Matching Program has encouraged more than 12,560 donors to commit $8.2 million to scholarship endowments. The program matches eligible scholarship gifts 50 cents on the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>The results: $12 million in scholarship support and 144 new endowed scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>Emmett Boyle (MSISE \u201970) and his wife Debra Boger have given $612,500 to create the Robert Emmett Boyle and Debra Boger Russ Vision Scholarship Fund in the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology. Qualifying for The OHIO Match\u2122 and the Russ College\u2019s \u201cMatch the Match\u201d program, the new endowment totals $1.225 million.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00a683;\"><strong>\u201cBeing involved in scholarships has been one of the most rewarding things we\u2019ve ever done,\u201d said Boyle, a mechanical engineer who serves on the Russ College\u2019s Board of Visitors. \u201cI am an engineer and believe strongly in the profession and the things that it can do for the world. (Scholarships) really benefit people. It\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Boyle sees Ohio University \u201cand its sub-machine of the Russ College, producing products\u2014some outstanding products\u2014that are needed today and in the future. The only way to keep this going is to support it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russ College Dean Dennis Irwin agrees. \u201cOur goal is to reach 50 OHIO Match\u2122 scholarships annually (approximately $4,000 each) for the college,\u201d he said. \u201cThey allow us to be very competitive recruiters in the state of Ohio; that\u2019s especially important here because of the very large number of engineering programs in the state.
