The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education celebrated the re-opening of its home on North Green following a $32.8 million renovation project\u2014 the building\u2019s first since opening in 1959. The project was made possible largely due to Violet L. Patton (BSEd \u201938, LLD \u201911) and a generous gift she made in honor of her parents, Gladys W. and David H. Patton.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project was made possible largely due to Violet L. Patton (BSEd \u201938, LLD \u201911) and a generous gift she made in honor of her parents, Gladys W. and David H., in 2010. Construction began in May 2015 and was completed in December 2016.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis project is really exciting, as the architects have exposed a wood ceiling on the fourth floor and maintained the historic front entrance, preserving the 50-year heritage of McCracken Hall,\u201d said OHIO Trustee David Wolfort (AB \u201974) during the ribbon cutting. \u201cThis complements the thoughtful renovation and new construction of growing a 66,600-square-foot facility to a state-of-the-art 100,500-square-foot facility.\u201d<\/p>\n

The improvements offer students unique learning spaces and experiences.<\/p>\n

Patton College Dean Ren\u00e9e Middleton said, \u201cThe building was designed to showcase experiential learning occurring within these walls. Students begin their journeys here, but it continues with the impact they are making, and will continue to make in our schools, community, and business enterprises.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately,\u201d she added, \u201cwe are not defined by the size or splendor of our\u00a0building; we are defined by the innovation,\u00a0<\/span>collaboration, and dedication that occurs inside of it and extends outward. I am proud of our past, but I could not be more excited for our future.\u201d<\/p>\n
